An ineffective investigation can be more damaging than no investigation at all. When an inquiry appears thorough on the surface but fails to uncover the truth, it can create a false sense of accountability and close the door to meaningful reform. Drawing on experiences from the Walk the Talk Foundation, this article examines how performative investigations undermine trust, shield systemic problems, and leave those seeking justice without real resolution.
